A²SC Newsletter is on a Monthly Publication Schedule

The next publication will be on October 15 and thereafter on the Ides of each month. Be sure to submit your material for each newsletter on or before the 13th day after Kalends.

This publication date was chosen to make it easy for you to remember our submission deadlines!

A more frequent publishing schedule will return when we get more active again.

No Approved 2020-2021 Ski Trips

The BOD met on July 23.

Ski Trip Coordinator Lane Hotchkiss reported;

25% of clubs are entering locked-in contracts
25% of clubs are entering escape-clause contracts
50% aren't scheduling trips

There are NO club sponsored events on our calendar at this time.

Because of the uptick in infections and hospitalizations the Board chose to continue in the current virtual-only status.

Membership Year Extended AGAIN!

The club's Board of Directors elected to extend current memberships until 30-APR-2021.
If you want to join the fee is $20.

Intersection Found in a Valley

Squaw Valley, site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, will change it's name next Spring.

Vail Resorts Projects a December 5 Mt. Brighton Opening For Winter Skiing

They say;

For your safety, we will be managing how many people are on our mountains this season and implementing a pass holder reservation system.
Reservations will be required to access our mountains. For the vast majority of days, we anticipate our mountains will be able to accommodate everyone who wants to ski or ride at our resorts.
This reservation system is designed to give you peace of mind knowing that you will have the space you need to feel safe and physically distance, no matter what day you visit.

Expect this arrangement nearly everywhere.

The New Rules

Limited numbers of skiers will be allowed on the ski hill at one time to assure social distancing.
Limited numbers of day-passes will be sold.
Masks will be required on all ski lifts, in lines, and indoor areas.
Skiers will be spaced in lines and on lifts.
Many resorts will require a reservation to ski.

VAIL Resorts (Epic pass), including Mt. Brighton, is implementing a reservation system. It will apply to season pass holders as well as day pass holders, though the former will have priority when limits are reached.

It’s a new and confusing process that we will be studying more to learn the easiest ways to take advantage. Watch for additional detail in coming newsletters.

So far most Ikon resorts (e.g. Winter Park) will NOT be implementing a reservation system, but they say that could change.

The Centre will research, collect, summarize existing and new information and knowledge, as well as suggest solutions for:

Snow production in the most cost- and energy effective way
Snow storage in the most efficient way
The best grooming methods and preservation of the snow to achieve good snow conditions for as long as possible

Because of Covid All in Europe

The International Federation of Skiing (FIS) canceled the North American venues from the World Cup program and replaced them with additional European events.

But, The US Team Did Not Miss Any Training

Thanks to these efforts and the hospitality of domestic resorts, the athletes have not missed any days on snow this summer.

Copper Mountain in Colorado, plus Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood in Oregon, are among the ski areas that have found ways to accommodate the U.S. Ski Team.

A Message to Any Rock-Stackers Reading This Newsletter

Cuyahoga Valley National park rangers want to remind visitors to leave the park as they found it, and that includes not touching loose stones for the enjoyment of rock stacking.

In the last couple of years, park rangers at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) have noticed that rock stacking is a problem, one that has amplified with the uptick of visitors ditching their scenery at home for a breath of fresh air.

“We're not a wilderness park. We're not going to be. But we are a wildness park."

Note, your editor did not stack those rocks, but he thought them fun enough for a picture.
